Folklore and Central Idea Worksheet

Lesson

Introduction

  • Ask students to think-pair-share in order to discuss the meaning of folklore.
  • Once students have had a few moments to discuss, allow them to share their ideas.
  • Explain that folklore is the traditional beliefs, customs, and stories of a community, passed through the generations by word of mouth.

Independent Working Time

  • Provide students or groups of students a computer with internet access.
  • Have students read the article “Why Are People Afraid of Black Dogs” from Family Dog Magazine September/October 2018. http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/f47bea78#/f47bea78/14
  • Have students complete the “Folklore and Central Idea” document.

Review and Closing

  • Review the questions and allow students to share their ideas.
