  • Frequently Asked Questions +

    Who can enter the contest?

The AKC Meet The Breeds Art Contest is open to all legal residents in the New York metropolitan area. Participants must be in grades K-12. They can be enrolled in public, charter, private, or home-schooled.

What type of art will be accepted?

Art must be created on a 8.5″ x 11″ piece of paper and must be flat. The picture can be a drawing, painting, mixed media, or hand-drawn digital art. The art must be an original picture (not copied from somewhere or someone else) and must be created by the student. It cannot have been submitted to another contest or promotion.

Where do I send my art?

Teachers or legal guardians will fill out the entry form and include a digital photograph of the student’s artwork. Use this link to fill out the entry form.

Is there a cost for entering the contest?

There are no fees to enter the contest.

To help with the shipping cost, we recommend that the teacher ship all student art in bulk.

The most economical form of shipment is typically USPS First-Class Mail, which starts at $1.50 for large envelopes and takes 1-5 business days.

The most economical form of shipment that includes tracking is typically USPS Ground Mail, which starts at $5 and takes 2-5 days.

A quicker shipping option is typically a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope, which costs around $10.00 and takes 1-3 days, depending on where it comes from.

We do not recommend shipping the art Priority Mail Express, which can cost $30 and up. When in doubt, ask the clerk for the most economical form of shipment that will guarantee delivery by the needed date.

*AKC Public Education can offer reimbursement for those who ship more than five pieces of art using USPS First-Class Mail or USPS Ground Mail. Please email your name and a copy of your receipt to publiced@akc.org.*

Will I receive my child’s art back?

We make every effort to return all art that is sent to us, but unfortunately, we cannot guarantee its return. Inevitably this process is dependent on the postal service, which is outside of our control. We recommend you make a copy of your child’s artwork for safekeeping, just in case.

How will the art be judged?

The entries will be divided into four grade-level categories: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

The art will be evaluated by a panel of judges or the public.

    What is the prize?

The winner of each grade-level category will receive a winner’s certificate, a rosette, and a $50 Amazon gift card.

All finalists will have their art displayed at the MTB NYC event. Each finalist will receive a certificate and a finalist ribbon.

Finalists and winners will receive two tickets to the event, good for one adult and one child.

How will I find out if I am a finalist?

AKC Public Education staff will notify teachers and legal guardians if their student is a selected finalist. AKC will use the email address provided on the entry form. Whoever possesses the art is responsible for notifying AKC Public Education once the art has shipped.

All art is due to AKC Public Education by January 13th, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted.

The finalist’s artwork must then be mailed to:

    American Kennel Club

    Attn: Public Education Department

    8051 Arco Corporate Drive

    Suite 100

    Raleigh, NC 27617

The student’s name must be visible on the back of the artwork.
