The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners deferred consideration of a proposed ordinance that would, among other provisions, enact litter permits and impose restrictions on breeders and individuals who sell/transfer dogs. Revisions to the proposal are in process, and it will be on the agenda October 8, 2024.

It is important for DeKalb County commissioners to continue to hear from their constituent responsible dog owners who have concerns with this vague, overreaching proposal. Breeders and hobbyists, as well as residents who may wish to acquire their next pet within DeKalb County, are urged to contact their county commissioners and state their strong opposition to the current proposal.

Ask your county commissioner to work with the American Kennel Club Government Relations Department, area AKC club members, and the Georgia Canine Coalition on fair and effective solutions to pet issues in the county.
