My breed began tending sheep in Scotland
and northern England hundreds of years ago. Some believe
we were called “coaly” dogs because our coats
were mostly black as coal, with some white mixed in. My
breed comes in rough (long) or smooth (short) coats. We
require daily brushing when shedding.
I am in the Herding group. I am smart and naturally herd
and protect. Like all working dogs, I thrive when I participate
in organized activities such as herding, obedience, or
agility. I am active, proud, and cautious. I listen to
people and understand their moods. I especially like children.
My breed is used, with great success as service dogs and
for therapy, Search and Rescue, and drug detection work.
What breed am I?
