The Dog Show Judges division comprises the Judging Operations and Registered Handlers
departments, and the Executive Field Staff. In the service of the AKC conformation dog show fancy, Judging
Operations processed 406 approved-breed judges applications and 121 new-breed applications.
Eighteen conformation field representatives covered 1,385 all-breed shows, a 96 percent attendance record.
The Registered Handlers program promotes the health and welfare of dogs in the care of handlers, educates and
provides guidance to consumers and the fancy in general, and gives recognition to those handlers who meet
established criteria. These dedicated professionals continued their program of informal handling clinics for
juniors at shows across the country.
At year-end, there were 159 fully accredited AKC Registered Handlers.
The Dog Show Judges division compiles the annual Judges Directory; maintains the searchable schedule of judging
assignments at akc.org; and administers the 50-Year Judges program, honoring those celebrating a half century in
the fancy’s service.
